Chess is an ancient game of strategy and tactics. The first variant of the
game, the Indian 'chaturanga', is dated as 5th century BC. Then it traveled
through middle east to arabic countries and reached Britain in 11th century
AD. There were many variants of it, so the modern rules of classic chess
were established only in the begining of 20th century.
